Welcome to South Norfolk Home Options

The first time you use the site you may have to enter a new "memorable date" and also may be asked to create a password to keep your account safe.

Step-by-step instructions can be found here.

South Norfolk is a rural area and a very popular place to live; unfortunately there is limited housing to rent. As result there are far more households seeking homes than are available.

This means that you may have to think about all housing options, including renting privately, finding shared housing or lodgings, supported accommodation, or living with family longer than you had intended. We hope that we can give you the advice and support that you need to help you decide which housing option is right for you.

If you are adequately housed and not at risk of homelessness, it is unlikely you will need housing advice; however, anyone with a need for housing will be offered a housing options interview.

This is a professional advice service, provided by fully-trained officers, to discuss individual housing need. During a one to one interview you will be able to discuss your personal housing needs and wants, and examine the housing options available to you. What you want or wish for in a home is not the same as a need.

Due to the small amount of social housing and the large number of applicants on the housing register you are unlikely to be housed through the housing register if you already have a suitable home.

What to expect from the Housing & Advice team at South Norfolk Council.

When you make contact with the housing and advice team you will speak to an experienced adviser who will ask you a number of questions, these are designed to find out more about your circumstances and what you expect from the housing and advice service. We will use this information to assess if you have a housing need and give you the relevant advice.

What is Housing Need

If you answer ’yes’ to any of the below questions, you could have a housing need.

  • Are you homeless today?
  • Are you in danger of losing your home?
  • Is your health or welfare severely affected by your current home?
  • Do you need more bedrooms than you have now?
  • Is your home too large for you?
  • Is your home in poor repair?
  • Are you in supported housing and ready to move on?
  • Are you interested in housing for over 55s?
  • Are you suffering, or at risk of, violence or harassment?

We will also want to establish if you have a local connection to South Norfolk.

Depending on your answers to our questions, you may be invited for interview so that we can verify your circumstances and give relevant housing advice.
